The first of today’s special trains was The Cornishman from Tame Bridge Parkway station in the Birmingham suburbs to Penzance. It lived up to being an express as the preceding stopping railcar was sent wrong line through Dawlish and Teignmouth which allowed the special to maintain a high speed run along the sea walls before passing the Paignton bound train which was held at Teignmouth station. It was hauled by Class 52 D1015 Western Champion masquerading as long lost sister engine D1071 Western Renown which was scrapped in 1978. It is due to return through Dawlish
