For those interested in the railway workings the Belmond Northern Belle Luxury Pullman train will be passing along the Dawlish and Teignmouth sea walls on Sunday 21st May. It is booked to be powered by two Direct Rail Services Class 68 locomotives in top and tail formation. The excursion is from Swindon to Plymouth where it will only wait for 11 minutes before returning to Swindon. The passing times for Dawlish are 3pm and 4.56pm for the return run. On the return it is booked to stop in the Dawlish Warren platform loop line for 20 minutes to allow two service expresses to pass but it will no doubt go beyond the station platform to wait at the signal further down the line.
These locomotives were built in Spain and are equipped with a 3,800 hp Caterpillar diesel engine and cost around £3m each.
