No special trains today but it is always nice to see loco hauled trains as opposed to railcars and multiple units. The regular summer Saturday Plymouth to Exeter and the return to Penzance using the locomotive and either three or four coaches from the Night Riviera sleeper train this week brought GWR 57605 Totnes Castle along the wall. Noel Downie, a regular contributor with his high quality photographs  has supplied two pictures he took at Ivybridge of this train on its way up to Exeter. A bit of a double whammy with the first as GWR livery 150266 was making it’s stop at Ivybridge with the 12.52 service from Exeter to Plymouth as Totnes Castle arrived.

The loco looks very smart though I’m not too sure it needs a snow plough on. Perhaps it doubles as a cow catcher!

The other loco hauled today was a continuous rail train headed by DB Cargo 66056 travelling from Westbury to Cambourne via Penzance. It will return on Sunday morning around midday.

The video that follows is a combination of clips from the Blenheim webcam and Nick Campbell’s video’s from Teignmouth. Luckily the Cross Country  with the Super Voyager was on the summer Newquay to Manchester service but just passed by in time! The continuous rail is produced at Eastleigh and consists of several lengths, each of which are virtually as long as the entire train.
