At Dawlish Beach we like to stay up to date with technology and use the latest innovative products to deliver the premium service you are used to.
We will soon be updating our live stream players on the website to the very latest lightning fast players compatible on more devices than ever before.
The live streams will load faster and rewind facility for subscribers should also load faster.
Whether you use a computer, smart TV, tablet or phone, the new player should deliver the same experience across all devices.
Here’s a preview of the new player (the design and colours are still work in progress).
For subscribers you can check out the new player here with rewind facility.
Please leave any comments below with your thoughts on the new player.
Hi Neil. I’ve tested the rewind several times now and it is much slower than what we are currently using. The new player has a circle spinning and doesn’t always rewind, had to keep pressing the “live” icon and start again. Compared to the rewind we have at present, which on my laptop is instant, the new one is a backward step unless you still have some tweaking to do.
Ever since the Blenheim cam was rebooted several days ago it has started to buffer constantly and when you click the rewind button a few times in a row, it buffers for ages then the whole stream fails and reverts to a random time in the past and you then have to refresh the page to get it working again. This is extremely irritating!
But on the SR cam it seems to be fine. The new player also now makes the stream freeze for about 5 seconds quite often but the rest is the same as above.
Also will there be the function to change the quality of the stream like 720p to 1080p like the current player has?
Also for us train enthusiasts we usually need to see the clock at the bottom of the screen to see what time it is as it helps us work out when specific trains are coming through however with this new player as the bar at the bottom of the screen is much taller I can no longer see the clock making it harder for me to work out what the current time is on the camera.
I have seen on the JW Player website that you can make the bar partially transparent, this would be a good idea to consider as I will be able to still see the bar quite well and also see the clock through it.
Here is a link to what the bar could look like:

It does not have to be grey, it could still be blue like designed for DB and not grey like seen below but this is an example.
Updated link as above not working:

Thanks for your feedback guys.
The new player is still undergoing testing and is in BETA at the minute. I won’t be implementing it until I know it’s an improvement on the last player.
I have made the player semi transparent now.
The cog on the right hand side allows you to adjust the resolution.
I’ll be testing the rewind on several devices as on my main PC it seems to run perfectly. Clicking the rewind is less than half a second to cache on both cameras.
I’ll create more pages soon with the new players on.
Thanks Neil but I still think there seems to be some issues with the Blenheim cam in general. Ever since it was rebooted about a week ago now it seems to freeze and buffer a lot, the picture quality keeps freezing and I get a big chunk of black appearing every now and then as well when using the cam. If this is sorted then it would be great…
Do you know anyone else with this issue as nobody else has reported it and it’s fine on mine. Cheers Adam.
Its not just on the new player, this began since the Blenheim cam was rebooted several days ago
Yes, Sion is having the same problems that I am having.
I wonder if a new reboot on the Blenheim cam would fix this or a few settings need to be tweaked…
I have just figured out that all these problems are only happening if I set the quality to 1080p, if i use 360p or 720p then the stream is absolutely fine. I have no idea why this is happening for 1080p but thought I would let you know 🙂
