Today has seen a very unusual visitor to the wall with Hastings Diesels Ltd’s DEMU 1001 unit running from Hastings to Paignton and back. The journey began at 6.42 am and arrived for it’s brief stop at Dawlish at 12.45. It’s rare to have heritage stopping nowadays so we can count this as a proper visit rather than a fly past.

Originally 1001 was used on the Charing Cross to Hastings route from 1957 – 1986 before being preserved and restored by the Hastings Diesels Ltd group. Their website is well worth a visit with plenty of information and pictures of 1001.

The return left Paignton at 17.21, stopping at Dawlish at 17.52 and should eventually arrive back in Hastings at 22.57.
Sadly we wern’t able to have a mobile camera on the wall today but fortunately Nick was able to provide stills and video from Teignmouth and Matthew kindly offered his stills and footage from Newton Abbot.
