The steam locomotive for this week’s Royal Duchy will be LMS Black 5 No. 44871 which is making its way down from its Carnforth base to Bristol on Saturday to be ready for duty on Sunday 22nd July. Unfortunately because of the fire risk it will be paired with a West Coast Railway diesel and not Britannia 70013 Oliver Cromwell that appears in the picture above taken back in 2010. The times that it is due to pass Dawlish are 11.50am and 7.48pm on the return. The diesel assist is to lower the fire risk that would occur if the engine was having to work really hard on the steep inclines it meets en route to Cornwall. Hopefully we will have had some rain before next Sunday 29th July when Southern Region Merchant Navy Class 35028 Clan Line is due to power the Torbay Express.
