Fortunately in this case the tornado is LNER Class A1 60163 Tornado due Sunday 23rd June. This is the new build locomotive which first appeared in 2008. The original class of 49 were built at Doncaster and Darlington in 1948/9 but unfortunately were all scrapped by 1966 with a ridiculously short working life of between 14 and 17 years. This tour is from Bristol to Par and titled The Summer Cornishman. It is due to pass through Dawlish¬† at 10.42am and return at 7.39pm. Tornado is programmed to be back again on Saturday 6th July with The Dart & Torbay Express from Bristol to Kingswear. It looks like being a good summer for steam fans as apart from July 14th and August 25th there are steam powered Railway tours every weekend up to and including September 22nd coming along the sea wall. At least if this weather keeps on there won’t be any cancellations because of the fire risk as happened last year!
