This month is full of treats for railway fans with no less than four steam powered rail tours and a diesel excursion to be seen passing through Dawlish and Teignmouth. The first this last Saturday with LNER A4 60009 Union of South Africa  was slightly spoiled by it being hampered by the preceding local stopper causing it to run under caution signals rather than the speed you would expect an express to fly by at. Fortunately the return run had no such problems when it was a sight to see. This coming Sunday the English Riviera Express is expected to be powered by BR Standard Class 7 70000 Britannia, the first engine of an eventual class of fifty five locomotives produced in 1951. Following on 23rd June is the old favourite 60163 Tornado on the Summer Cornishman bound for Par and lastly on the 30th June for a repeat of this Sunday’s English Riviera Express with the loco from the pool of 34036 Braunton, 46100 Royal Scot or Britannia once again. The diesel tour is the Mazey Day special on June 29th to Penzance which is expected to be powered by two Class 37’s as the recent Retro Devon Seasider was.

The video below shows DB Cargo 66083 passing through Teignmouth with a CWR train to Dainton Tunnel and a different view to that which we normally show of today’s off lease HST coaches from Laira to Ely Papworth sidings with the now familiar ROG 47815 “Lost Boys 68-88”  Near the end of the video you can just make out the crossover where the wrong line running from Dawlish Warren takes place just west of Teignmouth station.
