We have had a special excursion train, either steam or diesel hauled, passing over the Dawlish and Teignmouth sea walls on most weekends since the end of April. The season has now finished with the fourth and final Royal Duchy express with LMS 6233 Duchess of Sutherland at the head.
Seen here as it travelled through Dartmoor near South Brent by Noel Downie.
I love the bit where it goes through the station!!
Can anyone tell me what all the flames in the cab are?
When the firebox door is opened for shoveling in more coal the light from the white hot coals inside the firebox reflects in the smoke and steam from the chimney. There are no flames in the cab it is an optical illusion.
Excellent shots of the last special. Pity we can’t come to Dawlish again but this is the next best thing.
